Heartiest Congratulation to EDS DBA Graduate, Datuk Dr. Mohd Sofi being appointed as University Malaysia Perlis Board of Directors

Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP) is located at the northernmost part of the Malaysian peninsula, less than 35 km from the borders of Thailand. It now has about 4000 students, and a workforce of more than 800 people comprising academic and non-academic staff. There are 19 programmes leading to B. Eng and six programmes leading to Diploma (Eng), offered through eight engineering schools. There are also numerous postgraduate degree programmes on offer.

UniMAP boasts itself as a true-blue technical university which fulfills the interest of students who are inclined towards practical-based engineering education. UniMAP graduates are budding engineers who have been groomed to be competent and confident enough to explore entrepreneurial possibilities upon graduation. They are expected to not only exhibit excellence in knowledge and skills directly related to their engineering fields of study, but are also proficient in communication and ICT skills, as well as possessing unsurpassed traits of professionalism and patriotism. It is hoped that because their education has been excellent, they will become the engineering leaders of tomorrow. Indeed this is a testimony of UniMAP's commitment to Engineering as a discipline.

Joint PSU and AHU’s DBA Research Competency Workshop will be held from 12 – 16 Jan 2009 at Puerto Princesa City, Palawan, Philippines.

EDS Senior Faculty, Associate Professor Arivalan Ramaiyah will conduct a 5-day Joint Palawan State University and American Heritage University DBA Research Competency Workshop from 12th to 16th January, 2008 at Puerto Princesa City, Palawan, Philippines.

This DBA research workshop focus upon quantitative and qualitative methods or participatory action research techniques including subject selection, research design, and statistical analysis, as appropriate to each student's proposed project. Through this workshop, doctoral candidates learn to effectively define applied problems or theoretical issues and articulate the rationale for the study. They will learn to present an effective scholarly review of the academic literature and implement quantitative, qualitative or participatory action methods for evaluating academic issues for success in their final doctoral dissertation.

After completion of the 5-day DBA Research Workshop, EDS and PSU will organize a one day Puerto Princesa City tour on Saturday, 17th January 2009.

Puerto Princesa City is the capital of the island province of Palawan. The city has been acclaimed several times as the cleanest and greenest city in the Philippines. With a wide range of attractions ranging from beaches to wildlife reserves, Puerto Princesa is a nature lover's paradise.

Among the places to visit are:

Puerto Princesa Subterranean River National Park - more commonly known as the Underground River. At over 8 kilometers in length, is reputably the longest underground river in the world. With its crystalline waters and spectacular cave formations, the Underground River is possibly Puerto Princesa's most popular attraction. The site was also declared a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1999. The winding path of the river is navigable via small pumpboats that depart from Sabang Beach. Travel time from the city proper to Sabang is about 1.5 hours.

Iwahig Penal Colony - a good example of a true correctional institute, the Iwahig Penal Colony is more of a farming community rather than a prison. Inmates often live with their families and are allowed to toil their farms to earn a living. Carving out handicrafts is also a common preoccupation and mahogany handcarvings are a good buy for tourists. The colony is about 35 minutes from the city center.

EDS DBA students who are keen to attend the above-mentioned workshop, kindly contact Professor Dr. Pete Ooi at pete.eds@gmail.com.
