THE Penang Skills Development Corporation (PSDC) has invested about RM100,000 to provide each Bayan Baru household with an Effective Microorganism (EM) starter kit over the next year in an effort to green Penang.

“We hope to encourage the 1,000-household Bayan Baru community to make and use the EM Activated Solution (EMAS) in their household,” said PSDC chief executive officer Datuk Boonler Somchit.

“The EMAS will flow into the river system and improve the water quality, especially for the Sungai Nibong Kechil which flows around the Free Trade Zone Phase 2,” he said at a press conference on Thursday to announce PSDC’s 20th anniversary celebration.

PSDC management council chairman Datuk Dr Mohd Sofi Osman, who is also Advanced Micro Devices Export (M) Sdn Bhd vice-president, said the centre hoped the industrial players would understand that they should not be the biggest contributors to environment pollution.
