EDS Faculty conducted First Residential MBA program at Thai Nguyen University, Vietnam











Introduction
EDS has achieved another milestone on 11 September, 2009 by conducting training workshops at the esteemed Thai Nguyen University (TNU), Vietnam which leads to joint Southern Luzon State University (SLSU), Philippines and TNU’s MBA qualifications for the participants. This program is part of the TNU mission to provide practical trainings for the senior government official who represent various government owned entities at northern Vietnam. Thai Nguyen University is one of the largest universities in Vietnam with more than 90,000 students, located at Thai Nguyen City, Vietnam.

This training cum workshop is the result of successful international tri-party joint collaboration between EDS Asia Pacific, SLSU and the TNU. Under this collaboration, EDS Asia Pacific would provide teaching assistance to at least 3 modules, and SLSU and TNU will issue the MBA degree.

First Residential Program (11 to 13 September, 2009)
The first residential class started by Prof. Pete Ooi starting from 11 to 13 Sept, 09. Prof. Pete started with Negotiation Skills and followed by Employee Resourcing. The class comprise of about 30 participants from various government owned entities.

In another Residential Class Prof. Dr. Arivalan Ramaiyah conducted the Supply Chain Management module. He was assisted by a Vietnamese co-trainer from the University to translate his lecture into Vietnam language. This class also comprises of about 30 students. Both training workshops were conducted using a training approach where the participants are actively energized with challenging class activities related to the topic matters. Both sessions went on fine with excellent response from students; in fact some of them commented that they have never attended such an energized workshop before. The university official informed us that some participants traveled about 12 hour for more than 400 kilometer by road to attend the workshop.


The Director of International Studies of Thai Nguyen University, Dr. Nguyen Tuan Anh stated that the participants are very highly motivated to complete this unique MBA program, with both practical and academic flavors. The practical component is comprised of the training style workshop with practical applications and the academic components are based on the assignments and projects the participants need to submit after the workshop. This program is schedule to last for 6 weeks consecutively on every weekends including Fridays and expected to train about 400 participants on various MBA modules. The whole project reflects on the vision, mission and commitment of the government of Vietnam and Thai Nguyen University to deliberately train their respective manpower to achieve higher level of competency and skills in governing a firm. This commitment and spirit are rarely exist in other parts of the world. Congrats to EDS team under the leadership of Dr. Ben Lee, The Founder and President of EDS Asia Pacific, Dr. Cecilia N. Gascon, Honorable President of Southern Luzon State University and Dr. Nguyen Tuan Anh, Director of International Studies for working on such a noble project.
